What is it?
Coliform are a commonly used indicator of the sanitary quality of foods and water. Coliforms can be found naturally in the aquatic environment, on land, and on vegetation. Fecal coliform or E. Coli are the ones to watch out for!
Why is it important?
Escherichia coli or E. Coli is the most significant coliform as it can be very toxic to humans.
What does it mean?
While coliforms themselves are not normally causes of serious illness, they are easy to culture, and they can be indicative of a problem with too much fecal matter in the water. Which can cause serious illness.
