Questions about data ownership?
Please see our data policy.
First, you’ll need to sign up for an account. Signing up is free and easy to do, and will allow you to store and keep track of all your water quality data in one place.
After signing up for an account, we strongly suggest that you download the Water Rangers app, which is available for iPhone and Android users. The app allows you to record your observations in the field, with or without internet connection.
You can also record your observations on your computer at home, but make sure you select the right location when you do! If you end up needing to change the location of your observation, though, don’t worry- we cover this in our FAQ’s.
After creating an account and downloading the app, it’s time to test the water! Check out our protocol page for more information on choosing a sample spot, making a schedule, and more.
Once you’ve tested the water, make sure to record your observations using the app or using your computer at home.
How to upload data
If you don’t have access to a cellphone, or if you aren’t comfortable uploading your observations online, that’s okay. You can definitely use our testkits without sharing your data online. That being said, if you receive equipment by participating in a study or from a grant, you should check with us to see if you need to share your data or not. Sometimes it’s a condition of the grant that the data has to be shared online.
